Pebble Partnership Mine in Dillingham, Alaska
by Molly Danko
The Pebble Mine in Dillingham, Alaska should not be built. I don't know how safe Pebble Partnership is, so we can't completely trust them, no matter how safe they say they are.
The mine could destroy streams, wetlands, and salmon populations. The people in Dillingham depend on salmon for food and money, so it would be a big, bad difference if all the salmon got killed by chemicals. Mines could seriously threaten salmon. A hundred miles of streams and/or rivers could be destroyed, too.
One good reason to build the mine is that we would get everything we wanted. The bad side of that, though, is that we MIGHT be spoiled brats (MIGHT). Another good reason is that we'd get tons of electricity, but too much electricity is bad for your eyes.
Another reason why they shouldn't build the mine is that in Charleston, West Virginia, a company called Freedom Industries had an accident. In Charleston, the chemicals leaked and spilled into the river. The people in the town couldn't drink any of the water. An accident like that could happen in Dillingham, and the salmon would get poisoned and die.
Those are the reasons why I think that Pebble Partnership shouldn't build the mine.
